There is a lot of information out there about quitting smoking, and it can be tricky to know what will work for you. Quitline counsellors will help you to develop a plan to quit. It doesn’t take very long, and it helps more people quit successfully.

This plan is tailored to you, and only you.

This plan will help you:

  • better understand why and when you smoke. This will help you to work out the best way to quit
  • be aware of possible withdrawal/recovery symptoms and know how to best manage them
  • be aware of cravings and learn how to cope with them
  • understand the possible methods of quitting and the benefits each one may have

You might like to talk to a Quitline counsellor about setting yourself some smaller goals to see how you go with quitting. Maybe you might set yourself the goal of giving up for a week, or not smoking in situations when you normally would, like on your lunch break.

This strategy can help you understand what you will need to prepare for these situations when you quit completely―like a packed lunch so that you don’t leave the workplace, or something to distract yourself like a game or a puzzle.
